Gender Inequality Faced By Latin Women

Gender inequality is visible in all the realms of life like health, economy, education, politics, etc. Latin America has experienced an increase in population in the last decade and hence there is unemployment and dissatisfaction. As the number of people are increasing there is less jobs available for women. This causes the women to resort to sex work to meet their financial needs. This in turn will make them suffer from various sexually transmitted diseases including AIDS. The participation of women in various work forces is very low due to high gender discrimination. Women are not allowed to own businesses or to have proper education. The household responsibilities and child care responsibilities prevent the women from taking up jobs to sustain the family. They are either made to take up jobs in informal sectors or have to satisfy themselves with jobs at home. There is discrimination in the average wages provided to women. Latin women will receive only 60-70% of the wages received by men. Though many of the states in South America have passed laws to guarantee property rights, the holdings by women are still very low as men have more financial resources.
