What Make the Venetian Mask (Benátské Masky) So Sacred

In Venice, Italy, the Venetian mask (benátské masky) is sacred and has gained so much popularity due to what it symbolizes during the traditional carneval that is held in Venice on an annual basis. The mask allows people of different status to compete together and anyone can win irrespective of his/her popularity or affluence.
Every participant is expected to put on a mask and hide his status in the society. This mask is the sole item that will be used to contest and only the most beautiful one among them will be selected.
Those masks that were used in the past to celebrate the carneval in Venice (benátský karneval) were very sophisticated and cannot be procured by anyone. But nowadays, people can afford to make the masks for the Venetian by themselves. They can be made from porcelain, leather, paper and other similar materials.
It is not only during this Venetian carneval that these sacred masks are worn. People are seen wearing these masks for the carneval during theater shows, at the parties and some other occasions. Since the masks originated from Italy, some recognized ones have been given Italian names of which notable ones will be described briefly below.
1.       There are Colombina masks that are usually worn by women. They are made not to cover the entire face so as to reveal some beauties of the ladies wearing them. They are adorned with gold, crystals, feathers and silvers. They also possess ribbons that are tied at the back.
2.       The Pantalone masks are for matured men and they look very intimidating with their wide eyes and huge nose. They are classical half-masks that are worn by special group of men in Italy.
3.       Moretta is a Venetian mask (benátská maska) for lady of high class. This type of mask is usually black in outlook and has rather big eyeholes. The mouth is not usually developed so that the person wearing it will not be able to talk.
